Philippines landfill collapse claims four lives, search efforts continue

(MENAFN) Authorities in the Philippines reported that the death toll from the collapse of a landfill in Cebu City has risen to four, with dozens of workers still unaccounted for. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon at the Binaliw Landfill, where around 110 employees were present at the time.

Officials confirmed that 12 individuals have been hospitalized, while search operations continue for more than 30 missing workers. Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival stated: "Authorities confirmed the presence of detected signs of life in specific areas, requiring continued careful excavation and the deployment of a more advanced 50-ton crane."

Rescue teams remain on site, working under difficult conditions to locate survivors.

In a separate development, church administrators in Manila announced that four people died during the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene procession. They clarified that a photojournalist who passed away while covering the event was not considered part of the casualties. More than 1,050 medical incidents were recorded during the religious gathering, underscoring the scale and intensity of the festival.
